Everything Was First Class
A short note to say how impressed I was by my first visit to your Mill of Dess Lodge. I chaired a meeting of the Scottish Partners of Strutt & Parker at Mill of Dess and everything was first class. Plenty of parking, privacy, beautifully looked after, cosy and it was ideal for our meeting.

A Triumph!
I was very kindly entertained at the new lodge recently and thought I would let you have some comments.

The two vital requirements of a stalking/shooting/fishing lodge are, first, large baths with an abundance of hot water and secondly, a drying room with the capacity to dry even the most sodden of clothes and boots overnight. Dess has both of these and therefore qualifies for my seal of approval!

But it has somewhat more than this. The bathrooms are attached to bedrooms of good size and excellent quality; all bar one of which can be provided as either two single beds or one double bed. The views from many are splendid. But what to my mind contributes a special atmosphere to the place is the layout of the drawing and dining rooms. Warm, ,comfortable and spacious; well furnished with the aim of providing a relaxing and welcoming environment and with a lovely attention to detail – not least the frosted mirror behind the card table!

Robert and his team did us proud. Good local produce well cooked, with very drinkable wines and I understand that you can, if you wish, bring your own wines without being charged monstrous corkage. What a sensible idea.

I have stayed in many Scottish lodges (and country hotels in Scotland) over the years. Dess has to be the best thought out and most comfortable of them all. A triumph!

A Big Thank You
I stayed at Jeremy Clayton’s lodge on the Dee at the end of August and really enjoyed the visit. The rooms had been completed to a very high standard and the service and food presented by the resident couple were first class.

A big thank you to everyone who made our stay so comfortable.

A Warm, Comfortable Lodge
DESS LODGE has been designed with country sportsmen in mind. All the ensuite double bedrooms (each with Sky TV) are individually decorated with pleasing high quality practical furnishings and provide a warm and comfortable retreat after a day on the moor, river or golf course. Tea and coffee are conveniently available on the landings. There is ample parking with safe walking and kennels for dogs.

The large drawing room is a relaxing space for pre or post dinner drinks where a party can, if one wishes, split into smaller groups and there is access to an outside terrace if weather permits. The furniture is set off by a fine choice of fabrics with lighting and well chosen ornaments providing a modern twist on a traditional Scottish decor.

The equally large dining room can seat 20 guests in comfort with easy access for the lodge staff who provided excellent meals and service (including a very warm welcome on our arrival).

Last, but certainly not least the large drying room off the hall proved essential and for shooting parties has ten separate gun safes.

Dess Lodge is a warm, comfortable lodge decorated with flare that ticked all the boxes for a travelling sporting party. It is an excellent and welcoming base from which to enjoy all that Deeside can offer. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We Would Highly Recommend Staying
We stayed at Mill of Dess Lodge at the beginning of September. On arrival we were greeted warmly and shown our room which was very comfortable with every attention to detail thought of. The rooms are of contemporary design with incredibly comfortable beds and good sized bathrooms with masses of hot water. The drawing room and dining room are the perfect size for a large party of friends staying.

The Lodge is situated close to the river Dee on Royal Deeside in stunning countryside with an enormous variation of things to do.

We would highly recommend staying in this Lodge and look forward to returning.
