Combined Weight of 60 lbs!

A party of three fishermen from Yorkshire have had a blinder of a week on the Lower Dess beat.  Seven fish in three days with a combined weight of 60 lbs (including a very serious 16 lb salmon). Once again the achingly accurate little black fly was responsible for all but the Big Fish (which was caught on a size 6 Ally Shrimp fly). Meanwhile,…

Season Opening 2016 – Half Price fishing!

8th February and no fish caught (yet) on the Dess beats though there have been several connections which is promising. The river is a bit too high just at present but whilst we wait for this to normalise, the ghillie and our visiting rods are working out where the new best places are to fish since the flooding caused by Storm Frank has changed several pools….

Another Fish!

Almost into double figures …

Our most recent fishing party had a cracking week at Dess.  Nine fish were caught, the heaviest of which was a 14lb salmon taken on the lower end of the beat with a small black and orange fly. One of the party had considerable success at Upper Dess with a size 10 stoat tail which yielded him three fish. Mr Glover (below) took this 5lb salmon from a…

RISE PLEASE!

Incredible though it may seem after the damage wrought by Frank, we are sorely needing some more water in the river. With levels just over 1ft and rising we are hopeful that with a bit of snow melt we might see some more fish movement further up the river. Moving into what should be warmer March days we are hopeful for an upturn in fortunes…
