Welcome to Monday on the Lower Dess beat. This morning a good 9 lb salmon was taken from the Jock Rae pool with a Black & Blue fly. Soon afterwards a very experienced fisher caught a sea trout in our Island pool using a Dee Sheep. Looks like it is going to be an epic week. Watch this space for updates…..
Our ghillie, Eoin Smith, caught a very fresh 8lb fish in the Rossachs pool late on Wednesday night using a small black fly. River life quieter today with the drop in temperature but double digits on the mercury predicted for Monday.
Thanks to the fantastic weather we are currently enjoying at Lower Dess, the snow is melting and, as a result, the river is at a good height and very clear. Quite a few fish are showing too so tight lines for the coming week.
One of our Danish fishing guests caught a 14lb salmon in our Island pool using a black and yellow tube fly of his own tying.

A TWO INCH “THE REVEREND MOLE” FLY This fly from the River Usk in Wales, and new even to our ghillie, was used with tremendous effect by our visiting rod Michael Pearce to catch an 8lb salmon
RE-NAMING 16TH MAY 5 FISH MONDAY. 2 fish in 2 hours turned into 5 fish across the Lower Dess beat before close of play. This morning a delighted estate owner, Jeremy Clayton, caught a 6 lb sea-liced hen fish with a size 8 Blue Charm. Looking like a great week for the Dee and Dess – and it’s only Wednesday.
