Another busy week on the Dess beat

George Goodchild SunsetThis wonderful sunset was taken by our star fisher of the week, George Goodchild, who landed 3 grilse each around the 4lb mark and all with the wee black fly.

Another Lower Dess fisher landed a lovely 6lb salmon but, much to his annoyance,  it scarpered before he could secure photographic evidence.

Five of five

This very nice 8lb salmon was caught yesterday by Mr. Richard Pursglove with a Munro Killer fly. This was the fifth fish caught on the Lower Dess beat this week. The weather has turned distinctly autumnal with an east wind and rain. Hopefully this won’t deter our fishers next week who are regulars on this part of the Dee

Is it a whale??

Well not quite – but George Cartwright was understandably delighted with this 17lb uber-fish caught recently from the middle of our beat at Lower Dess on a size 8 Cascade fly.

A very respectable 12 lbs!

A very happy group of fishers returned to Cheshire yesterday with a tally of 9 fish to their credit, the heaviest of which was a 12lb salmon caught with – yes, you’ve guessed it – the mighty ‘small black fly’. The lower end of the beat yielded all these fish – 5 salmon and 4 sea trout. The river is settling back down now after…

Almost into double figures …

Our most recent fishing party had a cracking week at Dess.  Nine fish were caught, the heaviest of which was a 14lb salmon taken on the lower end of the beat with a small black and orange fly. One of the party had considerable success at Upper Dess with a size 10 stoat tail which yielded him three fish. Mr Glover (below) took this 5lb salmon from a…
